The Alcoholic Latinos in Eastern Houston Association was formed when Wendy Matthews and Juan Valdez met at an Alcoholic Anonymous meeting in 2016. They started going out periodically to have discussions, and they started to gradually add to their gatherings. They discovered that being both recovered alcoholics and of Latino descent, they had a lot in common.
Their meetings started to get larger and larger until there were 20 people getting together. They discovered there really was a need for some kind of organization where they could continue these meetings, and so the Alcoholic Latinos in Eastern Houston Association was formed.
Our mission is to provide a supportive and loving environment for all Latinos and Latinas in the Houston area who are in recovery from alcoholism.
